Studio at 200 Paul Avenue Facility Allows Professors to Teach Classes From
San Francisco to Students at Educational Institutions Across the Globe
MENLO PARK, Calif., March 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Digital Realty
Trust, Inc. (NYSE: DLR), an owner and manager of technology-related
properties, today announced that WIDE Project (www.wide.ad.jp), the research
consortium that operates its own IP backbone and the M-Root Server, has
selected Digital Realty Trust's 200 Paul Avenue Internet Gateway & Colocation
Facility as a new node on its worldwide network. WIDE Project has also
selected 200 Paul Avenue as the home for its new West Coast distance education
studio. Digital Realty Trust's 200 Paul Avenue is one of the premier Internet
Gateways & Colocation Facilities for network providers and enterprises in
northern California.
The 200 Paul Avenue Studio will facilitate distance education between San
Francisco and classrooms around the world using DVTS high-definition video and
advanced data technologies. Using the 200 Paul Avenue Studio, professors from
overseas who are traveling in the U.S. will be able to continue teaching
students at their home universities, and American professors will be able to
conduct virtual lectures to students and faculty at universities abroad.
The 200 Paul Avenue Studio is WIDE Project's first 24/7 distance education
studio in the United States, and is a milestone in WIDE Project's efforts to
facilitate distance education and educational exchange between educational
institutions in countries along the Pacific Rim and across the globe.
"200 Paul Avenue is the ideal site for this kind of distance education
studio because of the availability of fiber, Internet transit and peering
services, which provide the infrastructure necessary to support the advanced
video and data technologies used in the studio," said Dr. Akira Kato, Board
Member of WIDE Project and Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo.
"WIDE Project is very pleased to be working with Digital Realty to accommodate
our global infrastructure and distance education studio."
"WIDE Project's selection of 200 Paul Avenue as a core node on its global
network is an affirmation that Digital Realty Trust's Internet Gateway
facilities are truly world-class," said Michael F. Foust, Chief Executive
Officer of Digital Realty Trust. "Even more rewarding is WIDE Project's
decision to host its distance learning lab at our San Francisco facility
because the lab will play a vital role in supporting educational exchanges
between universities throughout the world."
The distance learning lab at 200 Paul Avenue is currently operational.
