Dennis E. Singleton
Dennis E. Singleton has served as a director since 2004. Mr. Singleton is currently the Chairman of our Board, Chair of our Compensation Committee and a member of our Audit Committee. Mr. Singleton was a founding partner of Spieker Partners, the predecessor of Spieker Properties, Inc., one of the largest owners and operators of commercial property on the west coast prior to its $7.2 billion acquisition by Equity Office Properties Trust in 2001. Mr. Singleton served as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Spieker Properties, Inc. from 1993 to 1995, Chief Investment Officer and Director from 1995 to 1997 and Vice Chairman and Director from 1998 until his retirement in 2001. During his tenure, Mr. Singleton was involved in identifying and analyzing strategic portfolio acquisition and operating opportunities and oversaw the acquisition and development of more than 20 million square feet of commercial property. From 2001 to the present, Mr. Singleton has managed personal investments in real estate. Mr. Singleton is currently a member of the board of directors and serves on the audit and compensation committees of BRE Properties, Inc., which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Mr. Singleton received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lehigh University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.
A. William Stein
Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer
A. William Stein (Bill) has served as Digital Realty’s Chief Executive Officer since November 2014 and as Chief Financial Officer since July 2004. Previously, he also held the role of Chief Investment Officer from July 2004 until April 2014.
Prior to being appointed CFO/CIO, Bill joined GI Partners, Digital Realty’s predecessor private equity fund, as a consultant in April 2004.
Bill has over thirty years of investment, financial, and operating experience in both large company environments and small, rapidly growing companies. Prior to joining the company, Bill provided turnaround management advice to both public and private companies. Bill has held a wide range of leadership roles, including Co-Head of VentureBank@PNC and Media and Communications Finance at The PNC Financial Services Group, where he was responsible for directing the delivery of PNC’s products and services to VentureBank’s high technology and emerging growth client base; President and Chief Operating Officer of TriNet Corporate Realty Trust (now part of iStar Financial); Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of TriNet Corporate Realty Trust; and a number of senior investment and financial management positions with Westinghouse Electric, Westinghouse Financial Services and Duquesne Light Company. Bill practiced law for eight years, specializing in both litigation and securities & finance.
Bill received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University, a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Master of Science degree with Distinction from the Graduate School of Industrial Administration at Carnegie Mellon University.
Scott E. Peterson
Chief Investment Officer
Scott E. Peterson is the Chief Investment Officer of Digital Realty and is responsible for evaluating the company’s capital allocation decisions. Scott is a co-founder of the company and previously served as the company’s Chief Acquisitions Officer. Prior to Digital Realty, Scott was a Managing Director of GI Partners.
Scott has over 27 years of real estate experience, including Senior Vice President with GIC Real Estate, the real estate investment entity for the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation. Scott was also active in investments, development and asset management with LaSalle Partners, a real estate services company, and Trammel Crow Company, a real estate developer. Scott earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University.
Chief Technology Officer
Jim Smith is Chief Technology Officer of Digital Realty and is responsible for the company’s Portfolio Operations Group, which includes global property operations, technical operations, customer service, and security. Prior to March
2015, he was responsible for overseeing data center development. He joined the
company in November 2004. From 2004 through 2014, Jim and the Digital Realty
team delivered more than 300MW of data center projects totaling more than $4
billion of capital investment.
For his accomplishment and contributions to the industry, Smith was named one of the top CTOs in the United States by InfoWorld Magazine in 2008.
Jim has 13 years of data development experience, including Chief Technical Officer at Colo.com, Founder and General Manager of ATMnet, which was acquired by Verio in 1997, and General Manager at 360networks. Jim received a BSc in Chemistry from Fort Lewis College and his MBA from London Business School.
Senior Vice President of Corporate Services
Ellen Jacobs is Digital Realty’s Sr. Vice President of Corporate Services, responsible for our Human Resource and Enterprise Technology functions. Prior to joining Digital Realty, Ms. Jacobs served in various Vice President of Human Resource positions at Charles Schwab, Advanced Micro Devices, and Continental Grain Company. Ms. Jacobs spent 15 years as a grain trader with Continental Grain, Central Soya and Cargill, Inc. prior to entering the Human Resource field. Ms. Jacobs received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from the University of Colorado – Boulder and an MBA from Northwestern Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Senior Vice President of Design & Construction
David Schirmacher is Senior Vice President of Design & Construction at Digital Realty, responsible for overseeing the company’s data center development, including design and construction. Prior to March 2015, he was responsible for the company’s global property operations, technical operations, customer service, security and data center services functions. David joined Digital Realty in January 2012.
His more than 30 years of relevant experience includes turns as: Principal and Chief Strategy Officer for FieldView Solutions, where he focused on driving data center operational performance; and Vice President, Global Head of Engineering for Goldman Sachs, where he was focused on developing data center strategy and IT infrastructure for the company’s headquarters, trading floor, branch offices and data center facilities around the world. He also held senior executive and technical positions at Compass Management and Leasing, and Jones Lang LaSalle.
Considered a thought leader within the data center industry, David is the current President of 7x24 Exchange International and he has served on numerous industry technical and advisory committees.
Senior Vice President, Investor Relations
John Stewart has served as Digital Realty’s Senior Vice President of Investor Relations since August 2013. He has over 15 years of financial services industry experience.
Prior to joining Digital Realty, John led the industrial and technology REIT sector coverage at Green Street Advisors, a leading independent real estate research firm. Previously, he was the lead REIT analyst at Credit Suisse. John has followed the REIT sector since 2000, formerly as a member of top-ranked teams at Citigroup Investment Research and Merrill Lynch. John began his career as a credit analyst with the Corporate Finance group at Bank of America.
John received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Oklahoma State University. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute as well as the New York Society of Securities Analysts. John is also a member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts and the National Investor Relations Institute.
Joshua A. Mills
Senior Vice President, General Counsel
Mr. Mills joined Digital Realty as General Counsel in April, 2005. Prior to joining Digital Realty, Mr. Mills was a corporate attorney with Latham & Watkins, LLP where his practice included mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and venture capital financing transactions as well as general company representation. Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, Mr. Mills served as Associate General Counsel for McAfee.com Corporation and as an associate with Shearman & Sterling, LLP. Mr. Mills received a B.A. degree from the University of Washington and a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Edward F. Sham
Senior Vice President and Controller
Edward F. Sham serves as Senior Vice President & Controller for Digital Realty; he joined the company in September 2005. With more than 20 years experience, his previous positions include Vice President & Controller of Catellus Development Corporation, now part of ProLogis ; Controller of Bay Apartment REIT, now Avalon Bay; and O’Connor Realty Advisors. In addition, Mr. Sham was a practicing CPA for Ernst & Young LLP in their real estate group for seven years. Mr. Sham received a B.S. degree from San Francisco State University and is a member of AICPA and California CPA society.
Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Matt Miszewski is Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, at Digital Realty, responsible for overseeing the company’s sales and leasing efforts as well as marketing activities globally. He joined Digital Realty in January 2013.
His more than 20+ years of professional experience includes a prior role at Salesforce.com, where he was Senior Vice President, Enterprise Sales and the Global Public Sector, responsible for establishing a new enterprise sales program that was focused on global and strategic accounts. He also served as General Manager, Worldwide Government at Microsoft, where he reformed the firm’s Global Public Sector business unit to focus on industry relevant solution-selling for the government vertical. In addition, earlier in his career, Matt worked as Chief Information Officer for the State of Wisconsin, President of an IT consulting firm and partner in a law firm.
Matt received his Law Degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School and his Bachelor of Arts from Marquette University.
Senior Vice President, EMEA
Bernard Geoghegan joined Digital Realty in April 2013 as managing director, EMEA, and took on added responsibility for the Asia Pacific region in September 2014. He is responsible for managing and driving the growth of the company’s operations in both EMEA and Asia Pacific. Previously, Mr. Geoghegan served as executive vice president of Colt Data Centre Services and was instrumental in developing its modular data centre offering. Prior to joining Colt, Mr. Geoghegan served as senior vice president of International Operations at Digital Realty from 2008 through 2010 after joining the Company in 2006 as vice president, Europe.
Mr. Geoghegan is a veteran of the IT industry with over 25 years of experience in the sector. Prior to joining DLR in 2006, Bernard was the chief executive officer of Servecentric Ltd., a provider of colocation and premium managed services to the Irish market. Previously, Bernard held senior operations and IT roles at Worldport and Xerox Europe and held various IT management and Software Development roles with Pioneer Investments, Informix Software Inc., Digital Equipment Corporation and Ashton-Tate.
